Community Education is offering an Intermediate Swing Dance class, Feb. 9, 16, 23 and March 1st. Classes will be offered at 6:30pm in the high school dance studio. The Winter/Spring session of Community Education has had a great start. We have received over 500 registrations for classes to date. The following classes will be offered in the next two weeks:

The Winter/Spring 2012 catalog will be mailed to all River Falls School District residents this week, January 2-6, 2012. We have 60 plus classes and trips offered this session. Classes coming up right away include: Yoga Gold, Basic Pottery, Greeting Card Making, Quilted Bags, Creating Your Own Web Page, Boxing, Lap/Open Swim, Tai Chi, ACT Math Prep and Swing Dancing! Don’t miss this chance to add some spice to your life and give you something to look forward to now that the holidays are over! We also are offering five trips and tours which include: Forever Plaid at the Chanhassen, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, National Eagle Center and Lark Toy Museum, St. Croix Off Broadway Dinner Theatre and even a Minnesota Twins Game! We have something for everyone on your list!!

It’s the holiday season and many of us are looking for that perfect holiday gift. The new session of Community Education is just around the corner and will start in January. We plan to visit the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre and take in “Forever Plaid.” We will also be taking tours of the MN Landscape Arboretum, National Eagle Center and Lark Toy Museum. We are even offering a group trip to the upcoming Minnesota Twins vs Kansas City Royals game! The Senior Tax Exchange Program (STEP) has begun in the River Falls School District. Participants of the program will work in the schools for 69 hours or more during the school year and will receive $500 to go towards their property taxes. Seniors may tutor students in reading, help out at school events and other duties as needed. Seniors will be matched up to positions according to their areas of expertise. Area seniors who own a home in the district, and are 62 or older are eligible to participate. A pilot program has been setup at Rocky Branch Elementary and is set to accept 10-15 seniors early this fall. Tara Albores is the new Vol. Coordinator/STEP Coordinator
and will work part-time at Rocky Branch.

We are very pleased to offer many varied classes, trips and events for this fall and winter. Classes include: Thanksgiving Centerpiece Arranging, Creating Your Own Web Page, Introduction to Social Networking, Holiday Cookie Exchange, Boxing, Conversational Spanish for Adults, American Sign Language, AARP Driver Safety Program, Preparing Your Estate Plan, Swing Dance and Beginning Genealogy.

We will be offering three trips this session, which include a trip to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see “Hairspray,” a tour is planned for the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and a night out at the Guthrie Theatre to enjoy a holiday favorite, “A Christmas Carol.”

We will also be bringing in two guests speakers for evening lectures. Karl Karsten, a certified education specialist trained by ebay will present, “Learn to Sell Like a Pro on eBay” and guest author and speaker Mary Sheedy Kurcinka will be speaking on “The Spirited Child: Secrets to Effective Discipline.”
